to promote DCWs and DCW training. The Committee also works with the Michigan State Advisory Council (SAC) on Aging.
State Advisory Council on Aging (SAC): The SAC is a 40-member body appointed by Michigan Commission on Services to the Aging (CSA). 88 It advises the Commission on various issues, including those related to the Direct Care Workforce. SAC made several recommendations in its 2016 annual report on the training, certification, and retention of Michigan’s direct care workforce. 89 Some of them are involved in forming a state-wide advocacy coalition, ensuring living wages for HCWs, including HCWs in interdisciplinary care teams, and forming community partnerships to facilitate low-cost transportation options for HCWs. In its 2019 annual report, the Council curated a list of innovative practices about the direct care workforce adopted by Michigan’s Area Agencies on Aging. 90
